The Finger Lakes Green Plus Initiative (FLGPI)
The Green Resource Hub has recently launched the Finger Lakes Green Plus Initiative (FLGPI) to help local businesses assess and quantify their sustainability efforts within the community. This initiative is a complement to the Hub’s suite of existing programs including a Green Business Network (The SEEN), a Green Directory, a Green Calendar, and Green Drinks. FLGPI licenses the national Green Plus certification assessment tool to help businesses and organizations measure sustainability based on their people, planet and profit infrastructure and initiatives. Green Plus evaluates and awards certification based on performance in these categories. The goal of FLGPI is to help participants improve their sustainability, attain certification, and achieve local and national recognition for their efforts.
Through FLGPI, the Hub program administrator coaches businesses and organizations through a 4-stage process of assessment, planning, operationalization, and re-assessment. For added support, participants can apply for a team of student coaches. College students are trained as business coaches for FLGPI through a Sustainable Leadership Business (SBL) Certification, established through a partnership with Cornell University.
FLGPI is currently off and running with 3 business participants (AFCU, Rasa Spa, and GreenStar Cooperative Market) supported by 12 student coaches and one intern through the Sustainability Center’s Internship program. Interested businesses are encouraged to contact Anna Kelles, Director of FLGPI, at [email protected].
