Whole Community Project
The Whole Community Project (WCP) is a collaborative effort of organizations and individuals in Tompkins County to support the health and well-being of our children and youth. WCP aims to be a place of dialogue and action for all the communities that make up Tompkins County. It will take our whole, diverse community to make a difference. By drawing on our collective knowledge and strengths, WCP works to ensure that every single child in Tompkins County has all the healthy food they need and plenty of opportunities for safe, fun and active play.
WCP is based at Cornell Cooperative Extension, Tompkins County. Since late 2006, the project has been working to make policy and other environmental changes through: * Supporting and connecting existing efforts to improve our food and activity environments. * Expanding this work to include communities most affected by both childhood obesity and food insecurity not just as beneficiaries, but as decision makers and actors. * Increasing public and politician awareness of the costs, in every sense, of the childhood obesity epidemic, unhealthy * eating, sedentary childhoods, and food injustice. * Reclaiming eating well and active recreation as goals and values held, in different ways, by all communities.
